May, the month, be with you...

May, the month, be with you...

The struggle between the "dark side" of winter and "light side" of summer ends in the month of May -usually. Fortunately, this unsettled weather month brings ideal temps and longer days to get things done as you get your landscape ready for summer. This is done on several levels including adding, pruning or replacing any shade trees, shrubs and replacing any trace of winter annual color near your patio, pool and front yards with high color, heat loving annuals and perennials. Following are some "MAY" tips to consider as you ready and customize your yard this month. Fortunately, this is easy to plan for when shopping at Belmont Nursery since this holiday laden month kicks off with one of the most rewarding holidays of the year...no not May Day comrade, its Mother's Day! And what's better to make mom smile than bright flowers or yummy treats!?!

So, let's get down to business and figure out a few things to do this month. Honestly, if high gas prices are keeping you close to home this season, we're here to help you get the best mileage out of your backyard summer oasis!

M.A.Y.

M: May Holidays! May Day, Mothers Day, Cinco de Mayo and the kickoff of the Semi-quincentennial celebration, Memorial Day!! Even (Garden) Meditation Day is May 3rd, so you have some planning to do! Mother's Day is the most important day, so time to plan and plant something beautiful in your yard for mom or bring her a lovely planter to behold all summer. Enhanced garden beauty is a small price to pay for bringing peaceful moments into a busy mom's space. Or how about some home grown produce? Sure, plant her a tree, favorite flowering shrub or garden or grab a hanging basket of flowers, strawberries or even heart shaped tomatoes. We have it all.

A: Annuals Lucky for you, May is the best month to find the largest selection of summer blooming or fruiting annual plants at Belmont. We grow the largest assortment of other plants that bloom annually including trees (shade, accent and fruit), shrubs (hedges, blooming accents and roses), perennials in the valley and we also carry the largest selection of veggies and seasonal color. So come by this month to fetch everything you need to make the most of your backyard for the season ahead!

Y: Yum!! Fruit and veggies need time to grow, so at Belmont we have put a great deal of work into offering a full selection of plants in all sizes that bring the yum into your kitchens quickly! A full assortment of veggies (tomatoes, eggplant, peppers and squash) is offered either as young starts or half-grown in case you got a late start; but still love a juicy tomato for your BLT, Cukes for a crispy snack, Basil for the Bruschetta, squash and beans for a light primavera or eggplant for some Baba Ghanoush or parmigiana! Don't have a garden? No problem, make up a lovely planter with tomatoes and cukes or a small bowl planter full of your favorite herbs! We can help you make it happen at Belmont!
